Be aware that some people (like myself) have a very adverse reaction to fish oil -- within a week it totally affected my sense of taste (some things like cheese tasted bad, other things I couldn't taste except in extremes such as sweet, salty, hot, etc.). In addition it left me with a constant "bad" taste in my mouth. This article really should have mentioned such side effects.

I take omega-3 every morning and 3months ago I lost my sense of smell and taste buds for sweet and salt. I'll stop taking it and see if my senses of taste return.

Try a different brand or a lower dosage. Every person is different. I have been taking omega-3 supp. for a few years now but only take 1 a day and it has made a huge difference in my arthritis, my diet, and just overall wellbeing. I have not had any side effects like the bad taste or loss of taste. These also can be from other things. Try taking one thing out at a time till you find the cause.

To avoid side effects like altering taste and low levels of toxins, or if you are vegan or allergic to fish, you can take fish-free omega-3 supplements made from algae (which is where the fish get it from!)

The cheapest and highest dosage brand I have found is Ovega-3, which are 500mg gel caps and contain both DHA and EPA. They are completely vegan as they are sourced from (sustainably harvested) algae and do not use gelatin in the gel caps.

I have been eating lot's of salmon and also take krill oil daily. I have horrible breath and guess this is what's causing it. I don't want to change my healthy eating, plus krill oil has helped my arthitris, but my friends can't stand to be around me cause of my breath. What can I do for my problem?
