Me and my husband do a 3-week detox diet every year and we feel it is a great way to start the spring season in gear. We shed our winter weight, feel lighter and healthier. We follow a supervised detox and we eat very well. We also do shakes and take supplements and we always look forward to starting it. I think it is a great way to set your mind in the right direction.

If it is medically supervised and done correctly, a detox is a FANTASTIC way to jump start losing weight. NOT all of it is water weight, if done correctly and you eat enought calories, combined with exercise. Not only does it help you eliminate foods that may be causing you to overeat (such as sugar and salt) , but it helps with portion control because you stomach shrinks as you eat less and are therefore fuller faster and it encourages you to try new foods in different ways. Long term, it is not a "diet", but it is a short term starting point to making a life change of healthier eating.
