A. Even if you’re watching your sodium intake, you can enjoy sea salts. While gram for gram sea salts contain as much sodium as table salt, their larger crystals and unique flavors, derived from various sources, may result in your using less salt overall, says Chef Kyle Shadix, M.S., R.D., director at Nutrition + Culinary Consultants in New York City. Sel Gris de Í’lle de Ré gets its color from gray clay; Maldon has a distinct fine-flake crystal structure; and Himalayan Pink is named for the mountains where it’s mined. Another way to minimize sodium: don’t salt while you’re cooking and instead simply sprinkle a pinch of coarse sea salt on your finished dish before serving. Read all of above..The sea salt vs salt still is an issue with me. I have high blood pressure and am on two meds, Lisinipril and Norvask, at night, a calcium channel blocker. I can go without salt in a lot of foods but still want that little taste. I used to use Sea Salt, then found Diamond Crystal's "Salt Sense" that has 33% less sodium. On label it says, "1 teasp. table salt has 2,360mg of sodium, Salt Sense has 1,560mg. Plus I hope everyone knows that if you DO have high blood pressure, do not take ANY of the salt substitutes that are out there, "if " you are on prescription medication as they can kill you! However, that still leaves me not knowing what to buy this week, more Salt Sense or look for Sea Salt. Actually I like what was said about "Kosher" Sea salt. So I will check out, or maybe go in a health store not too far from me. Glad this is all being posted!

Sodium chloride is the element that makes up most of the weight of salts. It is not salt. And comparing sea salt to table salt is like comparing a diamond to plastic. I don't understand why any human being would actually pay money for refined salt.

Table salt kills people slowly. sea salt heals people quickly..End of story. Kosher salt is no differnet than table salt. It is sold for profit just like the fake stuff(table salt) the important minerals are sold to big chem companies because thats where the money is and valuable things are where the big money is. If you don't understand that then too bad for you my friend.

Sea salt and table salt have the same nutritional value. The real differences between sea salt and table salt are in their taste and texture.

This issue of labeling sea salt healthy is really dangerous, I wish people could stop this nonsense. Salt is salt and it should be used with caution. Stop spreading fatal information that mislead people.

There really is no difference health wise. They both contain the same amount of sodium. Refined salt has some iodide in it to prevent iodide deficiency and Sea Salt doesn't. Sea salt may have trace elements and compounds from the evaporation process, but not really enough to affect much in the amount of salt an average person consumes.
