Alice H. Lichtenstein, D.Sc., director of the Cardiovascular Nutrition Laboratory at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University, and an EatingWell advisor, answers your questions about cholesterol.
My cholesterol is 315 with LDL 233 Triglycerides 224 HDL 37. So... I joined a gym and consulted a dietician. I cannot eat gluten, soy, dairy, often yeast as well. I have tried three statins and they all gave me trouble. Is there any point in trying natural remedies? I don't eat a high fat diet to justify these amounts, but I didn't get enough exercise. I also have a family history of high cholesterol and heart disease and high cholesterol. I am a 45 y/o female in surgical menopause 10 years. TSH 3rd gen 4.45 and T4 free 1.0. I have heard Niacin, Fish Oil and psyllium help. Can they do enough to avoid going on another medication? I just recovered from modified Stevens Johnson Syndrome and my body is still very sensitive.

i think I am pre-diabetic as a result of poor metabolism for many yhears. I have to work hard to digest "any" foods and therefore v.overweight. Yes I walk every day 2 dogs for exercise. know many good cholestering lowering foods which I eat or drink, particularly oatbran. Unfortunately i stopped having my daily dose of oatbran as porridge but found it seemed to not get digested... why do I get bloating after oatbran?
