I'm going with "Produce

I'm going with "Produce Department" because, while uninspiring, it's at least not misleading.

(What, you'll never call for frozen fruit or vegetables, or out-of-season produce, or items picked days or weeks ago?)

Anonymous wrote 3 years 17 weeks ago

"Just Picked" is cute, but

"Just Picked" is cute, but does indicate the produce was harvested within minutes, or at most hours, of use. So, problematic.

Likewise, "Ripe Right Now" will never be accurate for everybody at the same time. And it's going to limit you, a lot. Are you really planning to never write about any fruit or veg not at peak season? But mostly, it's inappropriate because it sounds more like an ad for or wrapup of local farmstands. Not the concept.

You could simplify the concept, and just go with "Produce Wise," I suppose. Or "Fruit & Veg."

How about, "Garden Fare", or,

How about, "Garden Fare", or, "Picked & Plucked".

I noticed that "Just Picked"

I noticed that "Just Picked" is currently leading in the votes. Unless you are picking the Fruits and Vegetables from a farm and then using them in your recipes, magazine, internet and videos, I do not think it would be the correct title to use. Any of the other titles would make more sense.

Thank you.

"E. W.'s Roadside Stand-"

"E. W.'s Roadside Stand-" Eating Well's Roadside Stand-kind of reminds me of the old roadside fruit & veggie stands years ago. A time where you really had no choice but to eat fresh foods.

If that doesn't work-Just Picked is pretty good but it makes me think of the orange juice commercial.

-Vegetable Wise. Fruit Facts.

Eating Well, fresh is best. Fruit grows on trees, yet it can't walk itself into a food pantry. Find a fruit tree. Harvest some for your local food bank, homeless shelter, soup kitchen. Eat local. Save a few for your own family. Eat Well. Make new friends. I've harvested over 1,000 fruit trees, over 100+ tons of fruits and farmers' market veggies to feed the poor. YOU CAN TOO. Join the fun. www.thelemonlady.blogspot.com (This is not a sales ad. I'm a real person, with a big heart and a passion for fresh produce and helping our community.)

Glad to see you're adding

Glad to see you're adding fruits in. I try to eat seasonally, but don't always know what is in season at what time since markets carry food from other hemispheres all year round. I favor our local farmer's market and smaller markets buy locally and that tell me where the produce was grown. That helps me as well.
All of your proposed names are great and I'm looking forward to some delicious and healthy seasonal recipies. It will help me incorporate color and variety into my diet. I think eating seasonally makes food much tastier and more satisfying. Thanks for the upgrade to both fruits and veggies! It's a welcome change!

My choice of a name would be

My choice of a name would be the green grocer not original but true
much of what is in a market has been in a cold box somewhere so the only one that is honest is produce department unless you only want to talk about what is in season and that would have a local component.
now most of the winter produce comes from south america. so of your choices produce department is the only one that is honest.

"Fresh Picks" (or some such)

"Fresh Picks" (or some such) works for me. Across the different time
zones of the U.S., there's such a wide range of local & seasonal
availability that "ripe right now"=cognitive dissonance. "Earthly Wise,"
though a spinoff of the current title, doesn't work the same way (&
it may be time to retire the "VWise" idea anyhow).

If you cook w/ vegtables and fruits you want the freshest and just picked the day they came in from the farmer, If you cannot find them change your recipe till you can get the right food for the meal of the day, and with the soups coming up today in the cold weather squash is great mixed with ginger, cinammon and apples puree it and add a little more spice on top and you have a great side dish... so good when served hot....

"Just Picked" is quick,

"Just Picked" is quick, simple and to the point, just like the original column. It would strike my interest as I enjoy cooking/baking with the current fruit and vegetable of the season, I like to learn new things and way to to use the fruit/vegetable. At times I go through the magazine quickly to see if somthing catches my eye when I first get it and then I go back at a later time and go through page by page.

Enjoy your magazine and website/newletters!!! Keep them coming!!!!!!!
