I choose paper bags, as we

I choose paper bags, as we use them to put our newspapers and other paper for recycling in, as per our community recycling program rules. So they get recycled along with the papers. We also cut off the tops, recycle them, and use the bottoms for customers' plants during our big botanical garden plant sale each spring.

In South Africa, where I

In South Africa, where I live, at least two supermarket chains offer the option of plast or woven fibre bags. Unfortunately, though they do charge for plastic bags as well as fibre ones, the price for plastic is cheaper. They urge recycling but most people who buy them simply trash them. Paper bags are not available form food stores unless they are pretty upmarket. When I've asked why, storekeepers say, they are too expensive.

I carry about 20 canvass bags

I carry about 20 canvass bags in the trunk of my car, so if I decided on the spur of the moment to do a little grocery shopping or any other type of shopping, my own bags are ready to go.

Whole Foods now doesn't offer

Whole Foods now doesn't offer anything but paper. When I buy large bags of organic carrots, I don't have them put in more bags. I buy so many groceries at once that I don't have enough bags to bring my own. However, I hope to increase my own bag supply to bring with me in the future!

I always bring my own bags and have for years. I sometimes ask for a paper bag to recycle my newspoapers and our garbage company recycles the bag. Our garbage company also has a state of the art recycling system where all garbage is sorted into recyables. We recycle whenever possible.

Plastic bags end up in tree

Plastic bags end up in tree tops and sea beds. Turtles mistake the bags for jellyfish and die after ingesting them. How can the so-convenience possibly be worth the destruction to our environment. Plastic bags should be outlawed. At the very least, responsible shoppers should never, ever use them.
