If I choose to drink at all I usually have no more than 2 drinks within a several hour period. On other occasions I have consumed more but my rule is to drink a glass of water between each drink so as to spread out the time and amount of alcohol consumed. Then for the last 2 hours I drink nothing if I am driving. I think it is important to be prepared for the unexpected and keep your senses at all times.
It depends on what kind of liquor is being served and if there is food being served along with it. If its hard liquor I might limit myself to 1 or 2, if its wine then I'll indulge in a little more and if I'm not driving then give me some elbow room.
"Surprised by the number of 4+drinks, seems to indicate how many people are feeling unhappy/frustrated with their current state of being."
Maybe 4+ drinkers are quite a bit happier, they stay longer at parties, etc.
In my case, we often, if not always, drink at parties since we're foodies and wine nerds. My friends are in the wine business, so we often drink several bottles (tasting, with food, etc.) over the course of several hours.
I'm personally surprised at the inanity of some of these comments; I was hoping EW readers were a bit more intelligent/informed/educated/well-spoken.
Depends if im driving. Please dont drink and drive.
I don't drink alcohol!--only organic teas, organic herbal teas, & organic coffee.
Always zero. I just don't like alcoholic drinks.
I'm a firm believer in the no drinking/driving rule. I'd much rather treat myself to a soda when at a party, and save the glass of wine or even two, for home!
I wish Zero was a choice. I am very allergic to alcohol and have to quiz the hostess at parties--especially during Christmas.
I know there are quite a few calories in mixed drinks. I have moderate GERD and also like to control drinking~when I must be the designated driver.
When I am at a party, I like being in contact with people with a 'clear mind', not in a 'fog'. I am not a drinker. However, I have no issues with anyone who does want to drink, except those who drink and drive.
Alot depends on what type of party it is and the mood I'm in.
Wow...surprised by the number of people who consume four or more drinks at a single function. I typically have a couple of drinks while out (at a party, out to dinner, etc.). That's usually stretched out to a few hours, so I don't get intoxicated. Not judging by any means (as long as people don't drink and drive, it's none of my business how much they drink), just surprised. Guess a lot of people are accompanied to these events by designated drivers who don't drink as much.
The amount of alcoholic drinks I consume at a party always depends on whether or not I'm driving.
Dependent upon how log the party lasts, distance from home, food served and alcohol served
Why not have a good time, when you decide to indulge?
I'm a Baha'i, we don't drink alcoholic beverages.
Surprised by the number of 4+drinks, seems to indicate how many people are feeling unhappy/frustrated with their current state of being.
I would have picked 3-4 if that had been a choice, depending upon the party! I didn't pick 4+ as I never have more than 4.
I don't drink at all. No, I have never had a drinking "problem", I have just come to realize that drink is not wise.
I have not had a drink in 13 years and my life is second to none.
Two if I'm driving, more if I'm not!
More than 2 and I overeat!
I never consume alcohol, do not like it.
As many as I can unless I'm driving!
I drink wine because that can be enjoyed slowly: the aroma, the different tastes and sensations as it goes over the tongue and down the throat. When I'm ready to drive home, I'm not worried about the alcohol content in my blood.
1-2 is more accurate for me than either 0-1 or 2-3...
OVER DRINKING IS HARMFUL TO SOME ONES HEALTH
I LIKE TO DRINK RESPOSIBLE COURSE ALCOHOL ABUSE IS HARMFUL
Just never really been into drinking alcoholic drinks.
it all depends on the kind of party-generally though being froma drinking area 4 is not alot the average is 6-9. I never have to drive so that helps!
As a diabetic, I usually don't drink alcohol or sweetened drinks. I miss them.
I'm usually driving, and I NEVER drink and drive!!!
Depends on whether I am driving or not.
Usually none, seems too dehydrating for me and I want health.
As many as I can before they run out of booze or the party is over! Generally I find liquor makes me charming and witty. This quantity is, of course, based upon the presumption that I have a sober ride home. If I am driving, no more than 1-2 over the course of the evening. I don't HAVE to drink a lot, I just enjoy it at times.
I always drink 4+ drinks when I'm at a party with no children, and when I don't have to drive. If you're going to drink, then you need to reap the benefits and feel the benefits. Why stop at one or two, just, ew...so boring! Have fun if you're going to drink at all, otherwise, find something else to do. And whatever you do, DON"T go to a party judging or paying attention to those who want to have fun drinking. Just go home, they don't want you there anyway, at that point. Anyway, eat, drink, and be merry!!!
usually 3-4; almost never over 4
don't drink...why waste calories on something I don't like???
People who get sloshed are not cute or attractive.
You can enjoy things more when you are not drinking..
I cannot drink any alcohol, my medications will not allow it! Since I pay enough for the medication, I don't want to pay for a DUI too!! I'm very happy drinking cranberry juice! Happy Holidays to all! ;}>
We live in the desert and a really hot summer day I may have 2 beers but mostly I am a coffee kind of person.
Because I drink infrequently, my tolerance is low. One glass of wine or bottle of beer is all I can comfortably have, so I try to drink water after that. If I'm thirsty, I'll drink water before alcohol, so that I'm not trying to quench my thirst with the latter.
That's only when at an adult party, and only go to one maybe once a year !
I nosh little bits throughout the evening and sip on my drinks
ZERO! Just because I have choosen not to drink alcohol, for over 30 years now, does not make me anti social or an avoider of parties. If the event is a pure drinking event yes I avoid them. However manyt social events/parties the drinking is an accouterment to the festivities.
It is my observation that only people that drink alcohol believe that soical events must contain alcohol.
