Q. If my cholesterol is high does that mean I have heart disease?

A. “Not necessarily, but your chances of having heart disease are considerably higher than if your cholesterol levels were in a normal range. One important thing is to find out whether your cholesterol level is high due to your LDL (bad) or your HDL (good) cholesterol levels. If your LDL cholesterol levels are high, we recommend modifying your lifestyle first to get them within a normal range. If those changes don’t work well enough, then pharmacological treatment may be necessary. Dietary changes alone are not always enough for everyone.”

I am 71 have a cholesterol of 165 with ldl 105 hdl 43 and triglyceride number of 83 at my last physical.
this was nine months before I had a heart attack and received two stents
Not one of my Docs suspected in fact they were surprised but said that I did need to lose weight and get more exercise
So the bottom line is just get the weight down or keep it down and exercise everyday my heart surgeon ordered one hour of walking everyday which for me is as yet too hard for me but I am getting there
