Tips and recommendations for choosing the best cooking oils.
All food sources that we think of as “fats”—we’re talking butter, shortening, oils—are made up of fatty acids. These fatty acids have specific chemical shapes that affect both how the fat performs in cooking (or baking) and how the fat affects your health. These chemical shapes generally are classified as saturated, polyunsaturated or monounsaturated. All fats contain all three types but are classified by the type of fatty acid that makes up most of the fat. For example, since butter consists mostly of “saturated” fatty acids, it’s considered a “saturated fat.”

I am currently using coconut oil but was about to switch over to cannola, but will definitely stick to what is healthier.

Here's what *I* know. Coconut Oil is the best oil to cook with that does not release free radicals when cooking - like olive oil and many of the others do at high temperatures. You can switch over to Coconut Oil for everything - we even use it with our eggs. The health benefits alone are worth making the switch. Olive Oil is a great oil, but not if using to cook at high temperatures. Canola oil is by far the WORST oil to use for anything. Ask at your restaurant what they use and most will say Canola oil because it is CHEAP, but really bad for your body.

Can anybody tell me 'CANOLA OIL IS MADE OUT OF WHICH GRAIN" I read so much about it. I heard it is very very bad for the health. The email was going around about it. I pray God that the common man should find out which is the really really good oil for cooking

Another one, which you failed to mention, is Mac Oil (Macadamia Nut Oil). In my opinion, it is far superior to Olive Oil. It consists of 80% monounsaturated fat, has a very high smoke point of 389°F., has a shelf life of 20 months without the need for refrigeration, and has a great flavor. A little harder to find and more expensive, but well worth it if you choose to cook with oil and can afford it.

I've read so many good things about Coconut Oil, why is it not included in the healthy oil family. I use it a lot, along with virgin olive oil. I don't use Canola oil ever, according to many of the organic or healthy lifestyle publications, it's bad for you. I know, I know......since coconut oil is a solid at room temp, it has more saturated fats, but I go with what I read and will continue to use it.
