Making Simple Syrup

Simple syrup is a great way to sweeten cold drinks (granulated sugar doesn’t always dissolve in cold liquid) like cocktails and ice tea. Combine 1 cup sugar and 2 cups water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat and cook until reduced to a slightly thick syrup, about 10 minutes. Cover and refrigerate for up to 6 months. Makes 1 1/4 cups.
