Want to get more omega-3s? Worried about mercury? Here are some things you should know.
"Tasty. Healthy. I like the ones in a light lemon brine...hmmm. The only thing that gets me is their little spiney-cord things dangling from within the center of the fish...blegh... I try my darndest to remove them.

I heard just this weekend that the last sardine-packing plant in the U.S. (in Maine) was closing.

I eat sardines regularly, usually for breakfast as the protein part of the meal. I dislike the regular size sardines in cans. But I found two solutions to this - (1) Tiny Tots (about 12 per can) are much milder in taste or (2) the boneless/skinless sardines available in water or olive oil taste much like canned tuna.

I LOVE sardines. They are best when fresh. My husband and I look for fresh sardines at the local fish market. Grilled whole sardines, perhaps wrapped in pancetta is terrific. But if they come in a can, so be it. I have a sardine and caramelized onion bruschetta recipe that is to die for. The trick with sardines, as with all fish, is finding the right preparation.
Fresh Spanish mackerel is also terrific and healthy. Herring can also be good if you know what to do with it but it has its limits.

I try sardines every once in a while to see if I can stomach them---no dice. Same with liver. However, my husband loves sardines, mashed up with apple cider vinegar (organic and cold pressed).

I like sardines but they're too smelly to eat when other people are around!

I can remember my mom making a very low cost delicious meal with sardines, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and spaghetti. Yummy....give it a try!
