I failed miserably, yet no one ever gets sick at my house. I think many of the food safety rules are bordering on hysteria. Diane, Denver, CO — Anonymous |

I use only plastic cutting boards and I always run them through the dishwasher after use. This should be good enough for the food safety police. Sarah, Renton, WA — Anonymous |

1 don't need a thermometer to set for cold---i like my milk almost ice 2 why defrost on the counter? i took it out of the freezer to eat it 3 just properly cleaning the cutting board will suffice--- 4 if it is fully cooked it will be hot enough---none of this raw meat on my table 5 - 10 easy enough to do — Anonymous |

Some of these are realistic; some of the "rules" could be as dangerous as being bit by a pig at a 4H event; it could happen, but unlikely. Don't eat sliced fruit that has been at room temperature for an hour???? Come on, who has ever gotten sick on watermelon at a picnic????? The best thing to avoid food poisoning: — Anonymous |

Bunch of bollocks. Above comments already have said what I wanted to say. Well, our grand grand parents didn't even have fridges and lived, right? Don't eat runny eggs? Well, as a kid I used to eat raw yolks with salt and it was yummy. Years later, still as a kid, I had salmonella (I was a guest in somebody's house) and I know it's a terrible and devastating illness but I'm careful with eggs and rinse my hands with a COLD water and a little bit of dish soap. And never got sick from that! Wash hands in warm water for 20sec? Surgeons maybe do that lol. All my dishes I wash in a cold water, don't use a dishwasher, love med-rare burgers or rare steaks or tartare, I buy beef in walmart, I thaw meat on the counter every time, when I was small I used to eat a raw dough all the time, I leave food outside the fridge and it's way more than 2 hours - I should be dead already, right?!? What I'm thinking... all the FDA joke is only to make us feel dependent of whatever they say, to make us feel defensless and scared of illnesses everywhere. And then out of the blue they will have a super pill cure! YAY! That was an irony.. I'm just tired of listening what we should or shouldn't... and now they poison our milk with aspartam (too keep us healthy WOW!)... Well, I think everyone needs a little bit of bacteria to force our body to fight it. If you keep it super clean, then everything will make you sick sooner or later. Just look how many kids already have strange illnesses, asthmas ecc? And we 20+ years ago were playing in the dirt, eating fruits fallen from the trees or sandwiches which fell on the dirt.... I miss those times.. — Anonymous |
