Gas vs. Charcoal? The age-old debate over which grilling method is “better” involves multiple variables, from flavor to cost to convenience. While no studies prove that either is healthier, gas does burn cleaner. Charcoal grills emit more carbon monoxide, particulate matter and soot into the atmosphere, contributing to increased pollution and higher concentrations of ground-level ozone. From a taste perspective, on the other hand, many people prefer the smokier, richer taste of food cooked on a charcoal grill.

Where can you get additive-free lump charcoal?

Gas Grills give the food a taste of Unrefind Oil to me. My Brother says he does not have the mess to clean up with his Gas Grill. I would rather clean up the mess (ash) of a Charcoal Grill and be able to enjoy the Smokey goodness of the food. You can change the flavor just a little by using Hickory Chips, Mesquite Chips, and/or Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey Chips.

I really prefer the taste from a charcoal grill, but I live in a condo that does not allow charcoal grills on the decks. After having tried several brands of gas grills I have a found a very basic Weber gas grill to be the answer to my grilling desires.

Please give some pointers, we bought a gas grill from Lowes. It has a smoker box you can put on the burner, instructions are soak chips for 30 min. We did so, the smoker ox with the chips caught on fire within the first 20-30 min. What did we do wrong?

We recently received a Weber Charcoal Grill with a Gas Light Start and we love it. It is easy to use since you use the propane flame to start the charcoal - ready to go in 10 minutes if you are in a hurry, yet the great charcoal taste I grew up with.

Charcoal grilling is the only way to go. I would not give up any of my 4 charcoal grills. You can't beat the flavor.

For a great source of information on lump charcoal, look at the naked whiz.com. This site will certainly give you an education on ceramic cookers and the many brands of lump charcoal.

I love the propane for quick grilling, but for my smokers, strictly lump charcoal and wood. Never, and i mean never use those quick light charcoals, they make your food taste like lighter fluid!
