Exercise Escape Plan

Stay on track with some post-feast activity.

Exercise tips

Nobody wants to be a party pooper, but celebrations, holiday and otherwise, can be a major obstacle for people watching their weight. So you overdid it at the dinner table? Bump up your activity level a little to compensate. Before you settle in post-feast, grab a walking buddy (or the whole family) and head outside for a brisk walk around the neighborhood. It will boost your energy and your mood—and you might just get out of doing the dishes too!

I try to walk at least 30 minutes after a big meal, especially on the holidays. It wards off the sleepy full feeling and makes you feel better after eating a larger meal.

Jennifer, Raeford, NC
I was up to walking 1.5 hours a day, but due to a knee injury, I now have to take it easy to keep the swelling down. I've been doing good, I feel that my stomach has shrunk (I'm not as hungry as I used to be) and I am still losing weight on a daily basis. I found that drinking water, especially at dinner has been really helpful in losing weight. Good luck!

Chris, Killeen, TX
Drinking water with your meal is great. It does help reduce your body fat percentage. Drinking cold water is especially good. Because your body needs to maintain a certain temperature, drinking cold water forces your body to warm up the water. Your body uses energy to warm up cold water. And when your body uses energy, it burns calories, thus, burns fat and fuel the muscle.

Prince, Baltimore, MD
Cold water also solidifies the fat in your body thus causing the arteries to clog and it is actually best to drink warm beverages before and during meals. Water without ice is ok but tea is better.

Monica, Normal, IL
