Few things feed a hungry football-watching crowd as well as chili. When my husband and I had a bunch of friends over to watch the playoffs a few weeks ago, we made two chili recipes—a vegetarian chili and a hearty, meaty chili. Both chilis were a hit and the ideal meal to serve at this type of gathering because there were only two pots to clean up afterward. Plus chili is loaded with antioxidant-packed vegetables, fiber-rich beans and (if it’s not vegetarian) lean cuts of beef and pork, which makes it a satisfying and healthy meal.
So this weekend for the Super Bowl, I’m going all out with a chili extravaganza.

When it comes to watching the Super Bowl, I’m all about appetizers. So when I planned my Super Bowl party menu this year, the only hard part was deciding which of my favorites to make. Boneless Buffalo Wings with Spicy Blue Cheese Dip made the cut without question.
Not only are they incredibly easy to make, they’re boneless so I don’t have to worry about our dog sneaking discarded bones off the coffee table during the game. EatingWell’s version is made with healthy white-meat chicken tenders dredged in seasoned whole-wheat flour and cornmeal, then pan-fried in just a small amount of oil and drizzled with a tangy hot pepper sauce.

I couldn’t survive the winter without soup. It makes the cold dark days of winter much more tolerable. These days, I like to make soup at least once a week, if not more. That may seem a little monotonous, but in my world, there’s a soup to suit every occasion. Got the sniffles? Chicken noodle soup has got the cure. Well, maybe that’s a stretch, but it sure makes you feel better. Nothing is more satisfying than a creamy turkey and wild rice soup after a long day skiing. So here are a few of my favorite soup recipes. Prepare to be satisfied.

One of my closest friends, who, for years, has listened to me talk about what foods are healthy and what foods are not, recently asked me if coconut oil could help you lose weight. Several readers have also asked me and the other EatingWell editors about the health benefits of coconut oil (which is laden with saturated fat) and now—when so many of us are trying to lose weight—is the perfect time to answer the question.

I’ll be honest, except for a few fries I’ve stolen from my husband’s late-night McDonald’s stops, I haven’t eaten fast food from a chain restaurant in more than 10 years. Really.
I’m probably in the minority on that one, since millions of people regularly eat fast food. But that number could be on the decline if cities like Los Angeles have their way. Last summer L.A. lawmakers banned fast-food chains from opening new outlets in South L.A. The goals? Reduce obesity and encourage new healthier food choices and food outlets.
