Several years ago, my sister, Jennie, and I almost walked out on Thanksgiving dinner. It wasn’t because the turkey was overdone or that we ran out of wine. No, it was a way bigger deal than that. I enjoy hosting Thanksgiving, but it can be taxing—especially on my wallet. Thanksgiving is all about abundance, and I want to keep it that way—without breaking the bank. So I’ve carefully selected my menu this year to include Thanksgiving recipes that are affordable and delicious.
My rules for selecting the recipes were simple: I kept my main dish (the turkey) to under $3 per serving. For side dishes and desserts, I kept them at $1.50 or below. My entire meal is going to please my palate and, at less than $7 per serving, keep my wallet happy too. Now that’s something to be thankful for.

Pumpkin pie is one of my favorite Thanksgiving recipes, but it always seems to hit the table at precisely the point that I internally declare that I can’t possibly eat any more.
I need a new approach, or at least a new recipe to add to my Thanksgiving menu. To the rescue: this lighter, luscious Frozen Pumpkin Mousse Pie that’s going to preserve my love for pumpkin pie as well as my waistline. This is my favorite time of year to invite friends over for drinks and nibbles. And when it's cold outside, there's nothing more welcoming than a pot of hot cider simmering on the stove or a mug of mulled wine to offer my guests as they arrive. These delicious hot toddies (with alcohol and without) are festive enough to serve all season long. I don't know about you, but when I heard on the news that Kellogg's had slapped a claim on their Krispies cereal boxes that it "now helps support your child's IMMUNITY," I turned up the volume. Really? Boosting immunity with Cocoa Krispies and Frosted Krispies? Admittedly, I'm as freaked out about getting sick as the next person (hello cold and flu season and H1N1!), but what's in those boxes of cereal that will really help me?
