I was late for my plane over the holidays but that didn’t keep me from taking a few extra minutes to place my order. I was standing at the Dunkin’ Donuts counter in JFK, weighing two numbers: 2.16 and 510. Which one do you think was the number of calories in the muffin?
The first was the price of a muffin in dollars. The second, the cost of the muffin in calories. Could just seeing those two numbers propel me to count my calories in the same way I might count my pennies? (Find our top 5 picks for healthy foods at the airport.) According to the authors of the Health Care Reform Bill, the answer is yes — so much so that more than 200,000 fast food outlets (as well as...read full post »

I asked one of EatingWell's nutrition experts to help me sort out fact from hype. ...read full post »
As part of my pledge to eat healthier this year, I’ve decided to cut back a little on my meat consumption—a tall order for such a carnivore. I dug through my recipes and pulled out some vegetarian recipes that will help me make eating meatless delicious. Spinach-&-Cheese-Stuffed Portobellos is a favorite of mine because the oven-roasted mushroom caps come out juicy and tender, almost meaty, so I don’t feel like I’m missing anything. Staying healthy and eating less meat is better for the environment, too—so watch out veggies, here I come! (Want to eat meatless for a whole month? Try the recipes in our 28-day Vegetarian...read full post »
When I say “dinner in a bowl,” I don’t mean cold cereal. Despite what you may call “dinner” in the privacy of your own kitchen or living room when no one else is watching, I prefer something more healthful and more satisfying. Granted, these recipes will take a little more effort than opening a box and a little more skill than sniffing the milk to make sure it’s still OK—but not much more. They’re worth setting the table for. Take the time to try these 5 delicious recipes and dinner will be ready before you can say “snap, crackle, pop!” (For more dinner ideas, check out our Quick Dinner Recipe Collection...read full post »
