When I shop for fruits and vegetables I always consult the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) pocket-size Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides, which identifies fruits and vegetables that have the highest and lowest pesticide residues. So I’m pleased that EWG, a nonprofit organization, is updating the list again this year. Their 2010 update is based on new data from the USDA and FDA on pesticide residues in produce. Cupcakes are not just for kids anymore. They’re perfect for wedding showers, baby showers, whimsical weddings and even Mother’s Day. This year, my mom will be visiting us on Mother’s Day and my son, Sawyer, and I are already planning to bake her a special batch of healthier Chocolate-Cherry Cupcakes to show her how much we love her.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner. I like to show my mom how much she means to me by helping her have the most chill and relaxing day possible. She loves to sleep in—or really, she likes to lie in bed until late morning reading a book, possibly with our dog curled up next to her. Luckily, she’s happy to be coaxed out of bed by a delicious brunch.
I like to make Mom an amazing brunch at home, instead of going out. Having a full spread of delicious homemade brunch recipes feels like a splurge, but costs less and is yummier than what we’d get if we went out to a crowded restaurant. This menu of brunch dishes is super-easy to make, plus many can be prepared in advance so I can have a relaxing morning as well.

Every year, I look forward to Cinco de Mayo. Of course I’m very happy for the Mexican Army’s successes over the French in 1863, but that’s not why I’m excited. Cinco De Mayo is the perfect excuse to finally crawl out of my winter cocoon and share some fresh, delicious Mexican recipes with my friends.
Most definitely on the menu? Some of my favorite healthier Mexican dips and chips. I love making dips for a party crowd because they’re easy and everyone is so happy to learn that they’re not eating fat-laden store-bought dips. Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner and I’ve been thinking about my party menu. I’ve got the main dishes covered but I know if I don’t serve margaritas at my Cinco de Mayo party, my friends will be bummed. I mean, what’s a fiesta without the “margies,” as my girlfriends and I endearingly call them?
