When I was in high school and college, I got a summer job as a lifeguard. All those hours in the sun gave me what I thought then was a beautiful, bronzy tan.
Today I realize the sun exposure just accelerated my skin’s aging process. Truth be told, I did wear sunscreen, but not always as much as a dermatologist would recommend. (Find foods to keep your skin looking younger and lower your risk of skin cancer here.)
Turns out, the vast majority of UV light that I was soaking up was UVA. UVA is a major contributor to premature skin aging (think: fine lines and wrinkles) because it penetrates deeper than UVB light and damages skin cells before there’s any visible sunburn.

When I first saw Julie & Julia last year, the movie about how Julie Powell cooked and blogged her way through Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking, I loved it. What I didn’t realize at the time was how many EatingWell “Julies” are out there, cooking their way through our magazine and books.

As a new mom, it is a big accomplishment for me to fit back into my skinny jeans again. After I had my son I was ready to say bye-bye to maternity clothes and then after a few more months, happy to pack up my transition clothes and roll out my pre-baby wardrobe. Unpacking each item, I felt like I was reconnecting with an old friend again, a piece of myself that I hadn’t seen in over a year!
Now more than a year postpartum, I finally (mostly) have my old figure back (I’m still not quite ready for my bikini ☺). I’m a sucker for a good deal. So whenever I see not-so-perfect organic tomatoes for $2 a pound or piles of corn at a rock-bottom price, I stock up. Find 20 quick summer dinners packed with fresh, in-season veggies here.
However, instead of subsisting on a diet of the-vegetable-deal-of-the-day until they’re all gone, I preserve them using a money-saving kitchen tool I already have. Since the last thing I want to do is stand over a hot stove processing canning jars for hours, I turn to the freezer.
