If you’re crafty (unlike me), you’re probably used to following patterns to produce beautiful results. I am more likely to dive in and figure out a unifying structure after the fact (as in, a knitted potholder that started out to be a scarf). This is my impression of how what’s now known as “the Mediterranean diet” came to be. Get 20 quick and healthy Mediterranean Dinner Recipes ready in 30 minutes or less here.

In culinary school I learned how to barbecue chicken “the right way.” It involved closely monitoring a live fire on a charcoal grill, keeping the flame low and painstakingly checking the temperature. If it was too hot, the skin would burn. And if I kept it on too long, the chicken would be dry and stringy—kind of like eating dental floss. (Find our favorite, easy BBQ chicken recipes here.)

I swim a couple mornings a week and recently I’ve had to share a lane at the gym pool (which almost never happens). I asked one of the other regular swimmers next to me why it was so crowded. Swimsuit season. (Click here for our easy, 4-week weight-loss meal plan to slim down in time for summer.)

Just like those resolutions in January, the anticipation of going out in public in a bathing suit is enough to get many of us flocking to the gym to drop pounds.

It’s a question that I would venture to guess every dieter has asked...even those who successfully lose weight, and keep it off. What’s the secret to losing weight?

As a dietitian, I get this question all the time—and not just at work.

I really truly love salad. When the weather gets warmer, I have one for either lunch or dinner every day—sometimes both. (Get 25+ recipes for side salads and main-dish salads.)

I always have one or two varieties of lettuce in my fridge, plus I grow my own salad greens. (Find out how easy it is to grow your own salad greens—no garden required!) And if I’m pressed for time, I head to the salad bar at my local supermarket in the morning when I’m shopping for the ingredients I need to test recipes in the EatingWell Test Kitchen.
