When I’m in a rush to get dinner on the table (which is often), I turn to my freezer for help. I like to keep it well stocked with a few essential ingredients that will allow me to get a quick and effortless dinner on the table fast. Plus filling my freezer with healthy options makes it less enticing to run and get takeout. Here are a few of my favorite foods to have on hand and some of the recipes that use them:
1. Whole-Wheat Pizza Dough: With all the topping combos out there, I think it’s impossible to get tired of pizza—and with the dough at the ready, it’s a quick meal to pull together. Just take the pizza dough out of your freezer and let it thaw in your fridge 24 hours before you want to use it.

What's my go-to summer potluck dish? Sesame noodles! They're easy to make and hold well, so I can make them in advance. This handy sesame noodle recipe formula has endless flavor combinations, so I can make a batch for pretty much every party I go to without my friends giving each other the side-eye and saying, "Oh no, Carolyn brought sesame noodles again."
All you have to do is add a flavoring to the sauce and switch out the vegetables and noodles. And the best part is, they only take 20 minutes to put together. With so many combos to try, you will be serving up these cool noodle salads all summer long.

Even though I’ve cooked meat on the grill (and on my stovetop) one zillion times, I still get a little anxious about cutting into it once it’s off the heat in case it’s not done–especially if I’m serving people other than my immediate family. There’s nothing worse than taking meat off the grill only to sheepishly return soon after and put your partially cooked steak, chicken or burger back on the flames. It’s downright embarrassing.

"BPA-free" is the buzzword of choice for water bottles and plastic packaging. Bisphenol A (BPA)—the chemical that hardens plastic food containers and is in the lining of metal cans to prevent corrosion—has gotten bad press for having a harmful estrogen-mimicking effect, which may cause early puberty and lower sperm counts, even raise your risk of obesity, diabetes and some cancers (breast, ovarian, testicular, prostate).
Many manufacturers have made the switch to BPA-free But are those BPA-free plastic water bottles better? Now, emerging science suggests the BPA-replacement chemicals may be just as harmful. In one study in Environmental Health Perspectives, researchers looked at over 450 plastic containers, including BPA-free ones, and found almost all leached chemicals that imitate estrogen.
