If you’re crafty (unlike me), you’re probably used to following patterns to produce beautiful results. I am more likely to dive in and figure out a unifying structure after the fact (as in, a knitted potholder that started out to be a scarf). When I say “dinner in a bowl,” I don’t mean cold cereal. Despite what you may call “dinner” in the privacy of your own kitchen or living room when no one else is watching, I prefer something more healthful and more satisfying. Granted, these recipes will take a little more effort than opening a box and a little more skill than sniffing the milk to make sure it’s still OK—but not much more. They’re worth setting the table for. Other than my cat’s birthday, I don’t throw many parties. Most nights my husband and I are content with our quiet unsocial life and casual approach to dinner—it only has to please us. But since the holidays are here, I’ve got the urge to throw another leaf in my dining room table, get out the matching plates and invite people over for dinner.
