I’m always looking for ways (beyond crunches, aagh!) to keep my post-baby waistline trim. But I’ve learned about a cooking trick that goes beyond just eating low-cal to lose weight: there are actually two dinner ingredients that can help reduce abdominal fat.

Research suggests that eating more whole grains or including vinegar of any type in your diet may help reduce total body fat and abdominal fat, according to an article Ana Mantica wrote for the July/August issue of EatingWell Magazine. Here’s a quick synopsis:...read full post »
It’s too hot and humid for me to consider turning on my oven or stove in the evening. I’ve got the whole no-cook dinner thing down and am well versed in making my whole meal on the grill, but what about dessert? I need sweet treats in my life, but right now I don’t want to turn on the oven to bake cookies and I want more variety than ice cream.
Well, the oven isn’t my only option for cooking dessert—I can make (pretty impressive, it turns out) desserts in the microwave. Many of these dessert...read full post »
Steak dinners are a special treat in my house. In fact, my husband and I don’t usually buy steak to make at home because it can be expensive. So I save my steak splurges for restaurant meals.
But last week I was craving steak and trying to justify the cost as I stood in front of the meat case at the supermarket when I realized how silly my thinking is. I could make 5 steak dinners at home for the price I would pay for one meal in a restaurant.

Since I shop for vegetables every Saturday at the farmers’ market (and what seems like most nights before dinner at the supermarket), I don’t want to waste money or my time. So I asked my friend Carolyn Malcoun, EatingWell’s associate food editor and resident veggie queen, for tips on how to pick veggies that will be ripe and flavorful. (Perfect for using in these veggie-packed summer dinners.) Here are her tips for perfectly picking 4 summer favorites:

As a new mom, it is a big accomplishment for me to fit back into my skinny jeans again. After I had my son I was ready to say bye-bye to maternity clothes and then after a few more months, happy to pack up my transition clothes and roll out my pre-baby wardrobe. Unpacking each item, I felt like I was reconnecting with an old friend again, a piece of myself that I hadn’t seen in over a year!
Now more than a year postpartum, I finally (mostly) have my old figure back (I’m still not quite ready for my bikini ☺). But it took more than nursing and exercising, which I’ve finally found time to fit in. I’m also paying attention to what I eat. (What does a 1,500-calorie day look like? Find out here and get...read full post »
