What to Do with Thanksgiving Leftovers

Matthew asks: How do you use Thanksgiving leftovers?

The day after Thanksgiving I use the leftover turkey and carcass along with veggies and robust Amish-style noodles to make a rich, rib-sticking turkey soup. We load up the soup, fresh crusty bread and a bakery pie and head out to a residential facility for developmentally challenged men.

They get a hot, satisfying meal while they watch football. We use up some of the leftovers and everyone gets a feel-good Friday. The men look forward to the turkey "re-runs" and we enjoy spending time with the guys. We also take other left-overs as we seem to have tons of food left from our family dinners.

We do the same at Christmas and Easter, too. For more fun, take along card games or coloring books or another activity that everyone can join in on. Family movies are a good idea, but so are soft footballs, Easter eggs with little prizes, and individual Christmas stockings. Make it fun.
