"Unhealthy foods" are in the middle of the store? Really? not in ours...let's take a look at dried and canned beans...whole wheat pasta, brown rice, quinoa, buckwheat, whole wheat & whole grain baking flours & mixes, frozen vegetables and fruit....the "shop the perimeter for healthy and economical" food is not always an accurate message. Our stores have cake, cupcakes, hot dogs, beer and wine along the perimeter. It's more important to teach consumers to shop the WHOLE store for the best buy.

In my city, tofu at least at the regular supermarket is at par with meat in terms of cost. The only redeeming quality is that it keeps a bit longer. I've also found it easier to order certain healthy snacks online. Here is one of my guilty pleasures, that beats the grocery store price hands down.

Check your grocery bill before you leave the store. There are always errors and they are in the stores favor not yours. Also, check expiry dates, some of those specials are just about to turn. Last week the milk was past its due date.
