clean and peel them cith them in half then put them in the frig for 2 hours. Sliver cuts produce the least tears

The candle trick doesn't work; neither does wearing contact lenses! I chopped shallots the other night while wearing my lenses AND burning a candle, and I could barely get the job done. Next time I will try chopping onions while wearing safety goggles. Looking silly for a little bit is fine by me if it reduces the agony!

I move my cutting board to the cooktop,first making sure it's not hot, then turn the range fan on high while I dice the onions, as described above. No more tears.
