The first time we hosted T-day for my sisters and a friend, I baked something in the morning and turned the oven off when it was done even though I had intended to leave it on for the turkey. When I put the turkey in a bit later, I thought the oven was on.
Off we went for a walk (to purchase wine if we're being honest here...), came home later, ready to do the rest of the meal only to find the turkey was no where near ready - obviously. Since the oven was off and all.
Turned out okay in the end. The residual heat from the baking did a nice slow roast for the first while then my cranking the oven to 400F solved the rest of it in about an hour.
Lesson learned. Make sure the oven is ON before leaving for the liquor store!

I put the 2o lbs turkey in the brining bag and it was so big that the bag broke and salty water exploded all over my kitchen counter and cabinets.
