As all foods are made of the organic material they are bound to decay because of natural process which has to keep up with the life-cycle.Expiration of an edible product is not something un-natural.It simply means that certain harmful for human's health bacteria has developed in the food item by the date mentioned on the product,I think the safest thing is to throw-away unless the product is consumed by the date of expiration.I further hold that even items that are frozen should not be used after a certain date as bacteria are found to have developed in very low temperatures.Eat safe and live healthy. No food item is precious than your health

My hard and fast rule is, "no dairy, no danger," meaning if it isn't a dairy product (or meat), I have no problem eating it after the date.

I have this huge box of chocolate chip cookies that supposedly expired like 6 month ago -- but they look and taste fine and are individually sealed. I seems like a total waste to toss them based on some arbitrary expiration date, but I do wonder if I am unknowingly getting some bad side effects eating these old cookies (they taste perfect).

We still have Juice Plus capsules expired 02 2012 is it still ok to take them

Yes, I do and I've done it for very many years. NEVER has anything happened to me. Kept well in the refrigerator or freezer, food or drink (milk, fruit juices) are as good as before expiration date. And I mean for certain foods/juices even several months.

I think people are way too paranoid about food expiration. This results in a tremendous waste of food and overspending on groceries.

yes I do...just because it has a date on it doesn't mean that it is no good...I have found canned goods and other things in my mothers attack that were a few years old and when opened they were just as fresh and good as the day she would have bought them.
