Do you have to simmer the liquid before putting it in the crockpot? I usually have everything cold (meat, veggies, sauces) before hand. I have been doing this for years. I never had a problem. What is the reason for this?

Has anyone else had a crock that cracked through for no real reason? The manufacturer suggested it could happen from using the plastic liners. They replaced my crock and it didn't happen again. I don't use the liners anymore.
