Thanks for the helpful ingredient tips Kerri! Over the years, I have heard of flaxseed being a healthy ingredient to add in every meal. My family has added flaxseed in cookies, bread, smoothies, and other baked goods. It is a good replacement for flour. I have also heard that using tofu is a good replacement for eggs as well. Have you used tofu in dishes as a replacement for eggs? Using tofu and flaxseed instead of eggs and flour can make any dish healthier.

I make a smoothie that contains:
11 oz. coconut water
6 oz. yogurt, plain
protein powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 T. flax meal OR 2 tsp of Olive Oil
fresh fruit, depends on what I have lately peach or blueberries or raspberries or banana
2 cups crushed ice

Drink half of this for breakfast and other half for lunch.

I use spinach, carrots, bananas, berries (all kinds), flax seeds, rolled oats (even sometimes plain cheerios if I'm out of oats at the moment) natural peanut butter, and either non-fat milk or soy milk. The most important part for me though is that all the veggies and berries are frozen which makes a super thick and frosty cold confection (think Milkshake!). The family loves them and hey what they don't know won't hurt them ha ha

I neve use ice in my smoothies and yet, ther're still so thick I sometimes need a spoon to eat it with. I buy bananas that are reduced in price because they may be starting to turn a little brown. It does'nt matter. Put 1 banana in each of the necessary plastic sandwich bag. Pat down till about half the thickness, then put all in freezer, along with your choice of other fruits. I keep bananas, strawberries, peaches and pineapple . Just bits and pieces left. Save whatever else you have on hand and toss in when you need a little more fruit. I put my fruit in my smoothie maker or blender, then add wheat germ or what ever you choose. I usually add milk but juice or low fat yogurt will work fine. No ice cubes needed.

This is my mid-morning smoothie. Greek yogurt, fresh or frozen raspberries, mango, cranberries, blueberries, kale, ginger, dates, and avocado. For extra protein I add a tbsp of hemp seed & ground flax or chia, and a bit of flax or unsweetened soy milk to smooth it out. ~ Yvonne
