Completely disagree with the butter. People have been leaving butter OUT for centuries. Understand this is SALTED butter. Never the less, you can't knock centuries of know how.

I agree with keeping the butter in the fridge specially in summer. Where I live in summer the temperature is an average of 32-35C and can get up to 43-45C. I left the butter out the of fridge in summer two years ago and will never do that again as it started to smell funny and looked even worst... definitely do not recommend leaving butter out in warm-hot temperatures for more than a day or it does go bad. In winter I cut smaller portions off the butter block which lasts a few days and leave that on the bench top in a ceramic butter container then top it up as needed...

I keep several things i the fridge. Living in a hot climate, I don't want critters getting into my stuff. If it's not in a can, jar, or double wrapped it's in the fridge. Flour products and sugars in plastic bags, cereals, pastas, gravy & cheese sauce mixes, potato flakes etc. Good thing I have a large fridge!

"That nifty little butter compartment on the door of your fridge is not the best place to store it. Opening and closing the door of the refrigerator can cause the average temperature to rise. The best place to store your butter is toward the back of your fridge where the temperature is more consistently cold."
Again, don't want it consistently cold because it won't spread. Butter compartment is there so it can spread more easily while still being kept cool.

My family has kept the butter out. My folks are 93 and 88 and have never gotten sick from doing this. We do NOT eat nasty margarine. Leaving the butter out works for them, works for me.

Butter does NOT spoil easily when left out of the fridge. My parents are 88 and 93 and have been leaving their butter out all their life. If it's good for them, it's good for me. I sometimes put mine in the fridge simply because our kitchen gets pretty warm if we use the oven in warm weather and I don't want messy melted butter. Otherwise I leave it out and we have never gotten sick!
