A lot of food? If you want to meet requirements for magnesium, potassium, most of the b vitamins,etc...you will come no where close......of,I forgot...candy bars and doughnuts are super nutritious...to the guy gaining weight,it is because you are not eating enough..your body is going to cling to every single bite...

Are you serious? This is no where near 2000 calories and extremely low in protein....of course adding in a doughnut bumps it up...in such a healthy way.....

Too clinical in how it is written. This is why people dont follow these guidelines.... no one breaks them down into easier to understand terms.
Why not show pictures? Here's 2,000 calories.... (images if 3 meals, 2 snacks) and example of what 2000 bad calories look slike and how little you can actually eat

Great article thanks!
Really informative and great ideas of portions of each - eliminates the guess work out of it! And love the other links throughout the articles. Best blog I've read.

I'm a fifty year old male 6'1" and 225 pounds, I work out 4-times a week plus I play golf once a week and racquetball at least once a week as well. My question is this, my diet in normally very good a shake in the morning of 1-cup raw spinach, 2 ounces of non-fat Greek Yogurt, 1 cup of frozen berry mix, 1 ounce of walnuts, maybe a small banana, 1 ounce of milled flax, 1 cup of oats, 1 scoop of muscle milk protein powder and 20 or so ice cubes Lunch is a salad or small sandwich, bowl of soup. Snack is hummis of cheese and a few crackers. Dinner is chicken or fish and a steak once o week or so. I also have a cocktail (no beer or wine due to allergies) or two at night.
The last few weeks my weight has gone up from 220 to 225, they only thing I've changed is I'm lifting heaver weights. Any suggestion on the diet.

So I looked at the page and it did not tell me what a 2000 calorie diet really looked like? Please help. People stare at me and make rude hurtful comments so I do not eat. I eat close to 600 calories or less a day and was told not told that, that my body is in starvation mode and I need to eat 1500-2000 calories, eek.... that is a lot of food and eating is not a great feeling because I am fat (280lbs). I was told if i ate 6 small meals a day instead of a meal every other day, or every day depending on if I feel hungry I would start dropping weight.
