I love them with crackers and pork-n-beans. Quick and easy with a can-opener !!

I've had an on-and-off relationship with sardines for 50 years. When I was growing up, my family would have "sardine night," which was usually on Sunday (for some unknown reason). As a kid, I thought sardines had a strong, fishy odor, which turned me off. My Dad bought the kind in tomato sauce, then mixed in chopped yellow onions -- for another blast of strong odor! And so, we ate this potent concoction on saltine crackers. I don't think I knew anyone else who ever ate them, or would admit to it, because they were considered "poor folks" food. At least I thought they were "adult" food, smelly as they were, so I held my nose and swallowed.
Today I have a healthier, no-shame relationship with sardines, but I don't always feel like eating them. Perhaps I will tonight -- it just happens to be Sunday!

I like to eat my sardines with rice, I sauté the sardine first with olive oil, onion and lemon juice.

Good Lord...Sardines...They bring back memories. When I was about 6 or 7, my parents would stop at the grocery and buy 2 cans of sardines for dinner on the way home from church on Sunday. They would cut up fresh yellow onions, roma tomatoes, and we would have them on saltines. Unusual, but brings back memories. I remember that I used to love them!
