Yes, I have always tried to avoid it just like I do with any product that contains "artificial" sweetener. I remember when if you were a diabetic you were supposed to use all this artificial crap and that was supposed to be better for you ... it wasn't. (not only that, it tastes terrible)
There is nothing wrong with sugar in moderation!

From what I understand about HFCS is that it is metabolized by the liver instead of the pancreas so that it's stored as fat instead of burned up as energy....

To me it hardly matters sugar or HFCS - added sugar is added sugar! The problem that I have with HFCS is that they are found in garbage foods - soda, candy, and highly processed items - these foods are calorically dense and provide almost zero nutrition. Leading you take in too many calories with no benefit and no satiety meaning you will need more calories in the long run to stay satisfied. Does your body "know the difference" between HFCS and sugar personally this isn't an issue as much as nutrition. If you are eating naturally healthy foods it is rare to find HFCS in the ingredient lists.

I will not purchase any product with HFCs
I also e-mail companies that list HFCs in their ingredient list and tell them I will not buy their products as long as they contain HFCS. I am pleased to see that some products list sugar instead and will purchase those. I also avoid products with artificial sweeteners

I have seen my children fall apart within 20 minutes of consuming HFCS. Like many people, our family doesn't seem to metabolize fructose well in the first place, so yeah, we do go out of our way to avoid it in foods. I make yogurt and sweeten it with stevia; it's easy to make lemonade with stevia, and it works with cranberry juice as well.
And as a teacher I have seen entire classes of children fall apart on the days when our school system sees fit to give them french toast for LUNCH, topped with "syrup" (which is primarily HFCS with "maple flavor") and washed down with sweetened milk (strawberry or chocolate).
I absolutely avoid it like the plague, and I have no qualms about advising others to do the same.

After some years of dealing with vague but challenging symptoms -unusual episodes of fatigue, skin sensations described as "skin crawling", insomnia-, I finally decided to look at my food choices. ( I had already had my thyroid checked, blood pressure checked, blood sugar checked, and all bloodwork and tests came back good.) My first step was to eliminate all soda pops, juices and sugar free beverages. Then I eliminated all products with corn syrup in them. Finally I eliminated all corn-derived products completely. (I only eat fresh corn on the cob). All my symptoms have disappeared.
My son is a Type 1 diabetic, so I had always thought I was doing a good thing to drink diet beverages, until I learned how many of the "sugar-free" sweeteners are corn-derived. I have removed even diet foods that seemed healthy but actually contained other corn sweeteners besides HFCS.
I have searched online for information about this and find very little about this topic. I realize the research is not decisive on the negative effects of HFCS and other corn-derived sweeteners. All I can say is that it has been worth it for me to remove them completely from my food choices.

Manufacturers of HFCS use MORE than necessary. Meaning you ingest more 'sugar' than if you had eaten food NOT sweetened by HFCS but by sugar. That is the difference.

Yes I avoid it and I am shocked at all the products I find it in. Most recently store brand vanilla extract and Chung King soy sauce.
