I do limit high fructose corn syrup. It hits the blood sugar harder than other sugars. One should use agave nectar, honey, stevia or fruit to sweeten. If I must use sugar, and many recipes require sugar, I use homemade brown sugar. I make this by adding old fashioned molasses to a good quality white sugar and blending until it is dark brown. I fully realize that molasses is also just a sugar but it has some food value in iron etc. Best of all, wean oneself from the need for artificial sweetening. We have many naturally sweet foods and if one gets used to little sweetener, these natural sweets are sweet enough for the tastebuds. I told my children growing up that fruit was "God's candy" and indeed it is.

Yes, I do avoid HFCS like the plague. I have watched several documentaries ... of which I can get you names of them. The documentaries compare drinking Coco Tea from Coco leaves is AOK... however if you take the leaf & treat it you will get Cocaine... which is NOT in any way good. Same goes for HFCS. If you eat corn it's perfectly safe, but get it super condensed it's really not safe to eat (not to mention it's in practically everything processed)... it's addictive & causes us to want more.... just part of the problem there are more obese people in America than ever before. I know I didn't explain the process of Coco leaves into Cocaine & Corn into HFCS... but I tried to get the point across.
