Is Coconut Oil Healthier Than Butter?

Brierley asks: Have you replaced butter with coconut oil?

Yes, I have replaced the butter in my oatmeal cookies with first press virgin coconut oil and I LIKE it! But....I guess it's not as healthy as I was originally lead to believe. I recently replaced the butter/coconut oil in this recipe with applesauce, yuck! Threw the whole batch out in the trash, no taste what so ever! A huge waste of money, time, and energy. What good is it if the family won't eat it? I've tried canola only to read that it has something in the processing procedure that will kill you. The internet is the wild west of information and you can't trust much information you find there. What it boils down to is that nothing but Brussels sprouts are good for you and I am not eating them. Trying to eat healthy is a exercise in futility because things change too quickly and what good is it to try to eat healthy if it tastes bad or has no taste at all causing you to dread eating?

So I do eat coconut oil instead of butter sometimes but i am considering to stop. Reason being there is less calories in butter. (which surprised me!!)

You don't know what your talking about..the benefits of saturated plant fats are very healthy and very beneficial.. Saturated fats from animals are what's harmful

I use both coconut oil and olive oil..some things taste better with one than the other..I like both but prefer olive oil for health reasons when the taste is acceptable

No but I had dry eye for years and just using a teaspoon or two a day or every other day on my Gluten free bread and my eye are now lubricated. I am still on my first16 oz jar (used over three months) but in another week I will be purchasing my second jar. I am hooked on coconut oil for life.

This is the only article I can find that says this! I stopped subscribing because EW seems to be confused on the subject of canola.

I love coconut butter, so it must be bad to eat.
