Great article. I have been making protein smoothies with stevia (sugar intolerant) and always feel better when I drink them regularly.

While I consume both smoothies and juices, I can say that neither one is supreme. If you already eat a lot of fiber...eating whole fruits and greens, juicing is a great way to get nutrients from greens like Kale, cucumbers, beets and such. You'd have to eat Mega loads of salad to get the nutrients you would normally get from juicing. When you juice something, your body absorbs it instantly and does not have to expend energy to digest it. It's also great for people who have IBS. So which one is better? It depends on how much fruit and veggie foods you are already consuming. If you aren't getting much, I'd say go for the smoothie. If you already eat a lot, but want to go the extra mile to alkalize your body, I'd say ditch the toxic dairy products and go for pure juicing.

Bottom line: DIY smoothies reign supreme—you know what you’re getting or, for that matter, not getting.

"Thus, the Produce for Better Health Foundation recommends no more than 8 to 12 ounces of blended or juiced produce daily." Why only 8 to 12oz. Please elaborate.
