Gluten-free? Not so fast. Watch out for this list of surprising foods that contain gluten

I have Celiac disease. I have learned to read all labels, and know to avoid anything with the ingredient "modified food starch." I buy almost no prepared foods, the risk is too high. Salad dressings are one of the easiest to research-go to the web site for the brand. I usually use olive oil and vinegar of some sort. Did you know Twizzlers (candy) contains wheat flour? When in doubt, don't eat. I make my own pasta, and bread. I have a hamburger bun pan and an electric pasta maker. It's easy to be vigilant; I haven't forgotten how sick I was before the diagnosis.

yes im .I take only plant base food.suffered with headaches.sence then I am doing better.

Getting as much info as possible. One simple mistake with hidden gluten and it takes WEEKS to get back to feeling good. I know GF may be trendy but for those who must be, it is a constant awareness of everything you eat. All articles and tips are appreciated.

My husband, under Dr's orders, can't eat any gluten. I am pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to find gluten-free items but yes, you definitely have to watch it. Those fries at restaurants may have a coating of some kind. The corn tortillas sometimes contain wheat flour. The glaze on the salmon? Soy sauce! We mostly cook at home and have learned to never ever assume.

One small correction. In the US modified food starch is always derived from corn. However, no such requirement of the starch used in pharmaceuticals. Unless it is specified on your drug's label, always call the manufacturer to determine the source of the starch.

I just went gluten and grain free about three weeks ago and believe this has been the underlying problem with my gastrointestinal problems all these years. I believe that eating food as whole as possible is really the best thing. I have had so much more energy than ever before. I feel gluten free borders on the Paleo or caveman diet that has become all the rage now. However, if you think about it, it really is the healthiest way to live.

Low carb (now gluten free) since the doctor put me on an Atkins like diet in 1999, (weighed 199), caffeine free for more years than that, (managed to reduce heart arrhythmias from ca 20/day to one every few weeks and had more energy), dairy free at my doctor's suggestion, and recently cutting back even more on my sugars (and bringing down my blood pressure), I would like to see more recipes that encompass these ideas. Continuing to gradually lose weight over the years I weighed 158 at the doctor's yesterday. I would like to see more recipes that encompass these ideas and are also super healthy and simple and delicious. I know it's possible. I know I don'y have all the answers, because I still have health issues. Thank you for all that you do.

ps. I eat rather more fat and salt than the doctors seem to think you should. I'm not sure that the Standard American Diet is quite accurate for all people, especially for me.
