Hello, Brierley. I'm a physician and food writer, EW subscriber since the very beginning, and EW blog reader. I'm all for yogurt as an immune-boosting food; but there is a cereal that contributes to immune system functioning. It is whole hulless barley and its beta-glucans appear to boost the immune system.

That really bothers me that a cereal company would take advantage of parents by playing into their fears of sickness--especially when it means that they're getting more sugar in their diet. That's the last thing they need to stay healthy!
