With regard to lowering cholesterol, on thing that has worked very well for me is steel-cut oats and loads of cinnamon on it (I do add some raw almonds, fresh blueberries and one spoon of non-fat yogurt also) - Then I run off to the gym to work out w/weights, and that has kept me at a healthy level, and made my doctor happy as well. A recent article about the use of artificial sweeteners states, "...when your taste buds recognize sweetness, it signals the release of insulin, expecting there to be elevated glucose in the blood for the insulin to help shuttle into the cells. Some research suggests that this process occurs from the taste of sweetness alone without the need for actual sugar calories to be present."*

I suspect this statement is incorrect but I do not know what research the author is citing and her website given at the end of her article has apparently been removed from the internet. At least I could not open it when I tried. Do you know anything about the accuracy of this statement and what studies the author may have been talking about?
