I have been diabetic for 25 years (since I was 9). The old school way of thinking was that diabetics have to avoid any and all sources of refined sugars...no cake or candy...no this or that. All along I have learned that you can have some in moderation, if you take into account how much sugar you are having and adjust your diet and medication accordingly. Now the endocrinologists are beginning to tell this same story that I have known for years!

imchangin my ways ... in eatin patern to usin cocoanut oil..in my cookin an as a pat of butter....though this has alot of fat.... i can see it runs out on the pan ..an plate..there fore eatin cocoanut oil in stead of crisco oil an butter...is better ..the latter stays with the food being consumed mostly

Protein diet so that meant no meat, no whole lot of other stuff because protein is in every thing.

This vegan does NOT eat beef-it is linked to colon cancer etc. The human body was not meant to eat meat, or if so, in very very tiny amount!

Strange. I'm 40, I grew up in a "Meat & Potatoes" family. Lots of salt from canned goods, TV Dinners, lots of milk, lots of vegetables too......And I LOVE rice!!! Nothing like making up a big batch of sticky rice for the weekend.
Yet I am considered "underweight" by the BMI scales, never had ANY health problems. Never even been inside a hospital other than to visit someone.
My grandfather ate the way they did in the old days- steak, eggs, milk, salt, sugar.... all the stuff that's "Bad", yet he was still outside chopping wood at 92 when he died. He smoked cigarettes till was 60 too. His sister just died at 100. Everyone in the family lives past 80 at least.
If its "genetic"- then it sounds like everyone else has horrible genetics. I'd see about getting a refund ;)

I have NOT bought into the margarine is better than butter myth. They are both mostly fat, only margarine's fat is trans fat. BAD. At least butter is natural and tastes good. I don't like to eat fats created in a lab. If I'm eating fat, I want it to be fat that God made.
