I have not had dairy, eggs, beef or much chicken for about 8 weeks.I do eat nuts, beans, no coffee, only green tea... I am not losing weight.. I have only lost about 5 pounds in 8 weeks, & will gain back a pound or two if I overeat on the weekend. What's up

I think that the one about beef is not a good recomendation. Much better to get iron from lentils , and green leafy veggies. Meat comes from animals that have been fed all sorts of antibiotics and other chemicals like the growth hormone so that they are larger faster. Adding to it the fact that the animals suffer while being slaughtered adds adrenaline to the meat. It isn't healthy to eat meat under those conditions and specially if you are pregnant. The advice should have been to eat nuts, legumes and green leafy veggies and if possible organic to avoid pesticides.

After Weighwatchers and reducing carbs over the years with limited results, I am suspicious of reports that appear out of nowhere saying that you should eat this or that for good health, particularly right about the time that sales of certain items have fallen off drastically just prior to a report saying we shoudl "eat more of this for good health." In other words, I think the studies are a fraud generated by the food industry to get everyone to buy-buy-buy! A remember reading a report that said how beneficial spinach is, a few months after an e.coli scare spread across the west. Then, suddenly, blueberries, prunes, and then, we are back to eggs again! Yesterday, eggs were killing me, supposedly, now you say how wonderful they can be. Sorry, I will now stop listening, but I will ask: do you word for a food producer?

I think the only thing that really made any of these foods "bad" was that people ate too much in a sitting. I have people tell me all the time that I shouldn't eat rice or pasta. Every now and again I'll make rice or pasta as part of my meal or order it when I go out, and I am always surprised by the negative reaction of some people. Then on the other side, because I am a runner and a cyclist, others think that I must eat tons of pasta/rice. As it has been said time and again, everything in moderation and you'll be just fine. I don't eat tons of pasta/rice, but I'm not going to fear it either because it is delicious and can be a great compliment to many different types of meals.
Also, when living in Central Asia, it was extremely difficult to get enough protein in the diet. A Peace Corps Volunteer several years before had taught a local family how to make peanut butter, and the family set up a little business selling peanut butter to Peace Corps Volunteers and some locals. That was by FAR the best peanut butter I have ever had! And it was definitely a lifesaver in the nutrient department! I took it home to my host family and got them addicted to it too, so they buy some every time one of them goes into the capital. Given that the whole diet is severely lacking in protein, I thought this was great!

Eat everything...but not to much of everything. Being fat comes from over eating.....Americans stay at the plate to long.
