Very confused about high GI foods. Since when di brown rice or carrots or watermelon become "bad " foods?

That's absurd. You can try to turn nutrition on its head for shock value. But that's the only value I see. Potatoes are one of the few vegetables that should be avoided at all costs. Red meat is so harmful to your immune system it should be immediately apparent. Peanut butter either low fat or natural has no redeeming asset. Dark chocolate is the new black and black it is. It is still candy and like all candy is poison.

In the first place I didn't believe the food nuts about cholesterol. I have eaten eggs every breakfast with bacon, oats, pancakes, and coffee since I can remember eating. I don't eat sea food - lobster, shrimp, crabs etc, to me they are the cockroaches of the sea. I grew up on the Mississippi river and ate a lot of catfish which they say is bad for you. When my doctor gives me a prescription I ask what it is for, and go get a natural medecine. Case in point at one job I had I noticed my side swelling up and a pain like knife moveing down in my left side. I figured it was a kidney stone, I called three doctors they said I would ned a operation and go right to the hospital, I called a natural doctor, he told me to get he biggest botle of Welchs grape juice and drink all of as quick as I could which I did I lived 30 miles from the job, I drank all of the juice before I got out of town. About 20 mile down the road I had to stop and pee, It seemed like 50 gallons, I went onthe side of the road it was dark anyway, I felt the stones moveing out and my side went down like abusted ballon. I drink a regular serving of Welchs juice and have had no trouble with my kidneys,doctors tell it wont work. Think abou it cured it for 2.59 no operation. I have had several things like that, which is why I don't trust the AMA or doctors. THank you

The key is this: the brain needs sugars to work properly, whole grain as source of them is recommended, moderation. We need fat for vitamins and energy as well. Ancient greeks knew that a poison is a matter of quantity, water can be harmfull.

If the majority of North Americans heeded Nina's advice, just maybe obesity would not be the huge problem that it is today. Young children with diabetes, unbelievable! Most adults' & subsequently children's eating habits are beyond bad leading to huge health issues. There's talk about down sizing & then 'man size' ads for food appear everywhere . And the quantity of junk being consumed, sodas & diet drinks, potato chips, etc.with little or no nutritional values.Please don't get me started! I guess it's too easy to stick with the same unhealthy diet & lifestyle, than to change for the better, just because it takes more effort. Why not munch on some carrots instead of grabbing a bag of chips. Having said all that, there is no magic bullet but common sense and educating one's self is so much better than staying in a sedentary lifestyle, filling up on junk food. The choice is yours...Anna

Oh man! You have a master's degree in nutrition and work as an editor for a health magazine. I'm sure you are passionate about what you do and I think that its pretty amazing how you would like to inspire people. I believe the major point here is creating a balance. Moderation, when it comes to most anything, is key. Your state of mind has a role as well and it even boils down to, how you think is how you eat. I just get frustrated when you have a hard time finding foods without chemicals or drugs in them. Then people wonder why they are sick all the time.
