If you notice, no one seems to be eliminating sweet things from their diets/lifestyle. As a person deeply addicted to sugar, I crave both the effects of sugar and the sweetness itself. I have been unsuccessful in trying to rid my diet/lifestyle of both. For me, eating most sweet things tends to make me want sugar. Substituting maple syrup or honey for white sugar only lessens the impact to a person's blood sugar, the fact remains that they are still taking in some kind of sugar.

What I can tell you is that for 3 months I gave up all sugar and pretty much anything that converted to sugar. This included milk, soy, pasta, fruit, etc. Dropped 20 pounds in a blink. The withdrawls symptoms for 2 weeks were terrible. Didn't realize how much I depended on the extra sugar for energy until I didn't have it. I've added whole wheats and some low sugar fruits, and some other carbs in smaller portions... even some ice cream with low sugar. 3 additional months, haven't gained a pound. I read labels now..........

Add sugar free applesauce to baking instead of sugar.

I've learned to love Stevia (KAL brand is the best in my opinion). Using that i have delicious teas to drink. I've even been able to substitute 1 tsp liquid Stevia in my pumpkin pie recipe to replace the 1-1/2 cup sugar, and we love it!

I use Ideal Sweetener as a replacement for sugar in all of my recipes! I can't even tell a difference. Ideal bakes cup for cup like sugar and they even have brown and confectionary! I made puppy chow the other day with Ideal. Ideal also has great health benefits!
