Breakfast is hands-down my favorite meal of the day. Mostly I keep it simple—toast and peanut butter, fruit and yogurt. But when I have more time or when I go out to eat, I’m faced with an important choice: pancakes or eggs?

As a dietitian and associate nutrition editor at EatingWell Magazine I know that when you’re cooking at home, both pancakes or eggs can be a healthy choice (more on that below). So let’s look at the health pros and cons of pancakes and eggs and I’ll give you my verdict in the pancakes vs. eggs smack-down.

I like to keep a stockpile of my favorite foods in my pantry so that when the mood strikes, I have what I’m craving. But it turns out that may not be a good idea for certain foods, because they actually lose their health punch over time, according to a report by Amy Paturel in EatingWell Magazine.

Menopause. That not-so-eagerly anticipated, but inevitable time in a woman’s life when our estrogen and progesterone hormones take a downward dive and those hot flashes sneak up on us. I look forward to entering this phase of my life. My friends and clients have been talking about menopause for years now and they're finding plenty to like about it. What's not to love about not having periods anymore?

Last week I was watching Jamie Oliver’s “Food Revolution,” the British chef’s reality TV show, which is filming in Los Angeles this season. On the show, which aired April 12, Oliver demonized the chocolate milk L.A. Unified School District (LAUSD) serves their students, calling it “the equivalent of a candy bar.” Oliver filled a school bus with sand to represent the amount of sugar in flavored milk that he claimed is consumed by LAUSD students every week.
