I will be making the Cream of Mushroom & Barley Soup this weekend - but substituting shitakes as I do not care for porcinis.

I like hot sweets: an egg custard or rice pudding, prepared in a 1 qt casserole dish in a bain marie in the oven; or the rice pudding dish can be set inside a crock pot on a rack and slow cook longer (although there's no carmelization on the surface in this case). I have a great recipe for country crock apples, to fix in a smaller crock pot like 2 1/2 qt size, and it's wonderful to smell the apples all afternoon. The dish is like apple pie but without the crust so it's a lot healthier. Leftovers can be stored in single serve tupperware in the fridge to nuke for a dessert or even a breakfast.
