I think that a kid should be able to choose what they want to eat. BUT, not everyday, or your kid will not want to eat any thing else you give them!!!! For example, they could eat what they want, but they must eat some thing healthy on top of what they are eatting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HOPE THIS HELPS YOU AND YOUR KID(S)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could eat oatmeal for breakfast everyday. I never found it boring, but what I do find is that it seems that not long after I've eaten it, no matter how much I've eaten, I'm starving! Even my husband and daughter complain about this.
I make it with part to all almond milk, and often add raw nuts in hopes the protein will fill us up.
For myself and husband, we don't add extra sweetener aside from fresh fruit or dried fruit.
So, while I love a good bowl of oatmeal, I can't say it's the breakfast to send my daughter off to school with because she will be starving by lunchtime. I do it all the time, though, because it's a staple in our house. I keep oatmeal in a canister next to the stove because I go through it so regularly.
I'm sure it's healthy but can't explain why my family doesn't stay full.

I do think it's funny that oatmeal has a bad reputation with so many people. It's so satisfying.
Maybe because most of us were raised on dry sugar cereals????
