Some good points shared here. Trying to join forces with a neighbor family and splitting the cost could save you money (but you have to like them and eat similar types of foods).

My husband gets turkey from his employer. My sister, who is disabled, get a chicken from the food pantry. We always have all the family together on the day before so my daughter can have a second Thanksgiving dinner with her inlaws.

What we do saves money, and helps soften the blow...
We always host Christmas (same spread as Thanksgiving). We purchase things that can be frozen or stored in the pantry throughout the year, as they go on sale, so all we need to buy close to the big day is fresh food.
