I used to buy boneless, skinless chicken when it was on sale for $1.99/lb. Now I buy split chicken breasts when they are $0.99/lb, then I separate the breasts from the rib section. We grill the breasts and I cook the rib meat sections, de-bone it and freeze it for later use as stews, soups, etc. I also buy lean ground meat when its on sale, brown it and freeze in bags for use in chili, spaghetti sauce, soups, etc.

I buy bulk things.
Like 25# organic oatmeal to $15.00. 50# sack of organic beans so that we always have protein even when we are broke. Bulk nuts for baking. When things are on sale at the farmers market I stock up and freeze things like diced bell pepper.
