Is this for real? Are people that blind and uneducated? First and foremost weight in and of itself is not the only determining factor in "losing" weight. The group that was exercising twice as long did NOT hinder their weight loss. They obviously had more muscle and muscle is heavier than fat. You would need to measure, size, weight and muscle mass to determine the difference and over the long haul the 1 hour daily group would still be more fit.
Most people want to lose weight simply to look better. There are enough studies that show that weight loss dieting without exercise will cause you to loose more muscle mass and actually make you fatter when finished. Exercise or physical activity is always needed, period. If you work out more time every day AND pull in the same caloric intake the group with more time will lose more inches and be healthier, which is what we want.

muscle does not weigh more than fat, 5 pounds of muscle or 5 pounds of fat weigh 5 pounds each. Muscle is smooth and takes up less space.

One factor that must be remembered when working out, especially at vigorous levels, will be the diet that the individual is on. Calorie consumption must be monitored when working out as well as the amount of calories burned. If more calories are burned than consumed, an individual will eventually lose weight. If the individual works out twice as hard and more days a week than this same individual but continues to consume more calories that are being burned, they will have a more difficult time shedding weight during this process. While many believe that muscle mass weighs more than fat, the truth about this perception is incorrect. The misunderstanding often comes into play because muscle is denser that fat, which seems that it weighs more. Therefore, a pound of muscle occupies less space than a pound of fat. Muscle burns fatter than a pound at fat so by increasing the lean muscle tissue mass, this will help the body burn more calories. It is important not to only focus on the fit of your clothes when working out and becoming healthy. Instead, pay attention to the muscle mass and percentage of fat present on your body before stepping on a scale. Many times, this discourages individuals so that they diet in more unhealthy ways and this leads to weight gain as soon as the diet stops.
